Following on from a "conversation" this morning I thought that I'd follow it on....

The question is.....

What time does your alarm clock go off at, and then what time do you actually start work??

Please also state wether you do Industrial, commercial or domestic

well when I was at the smelter a couple of years ago alarm would go off at 5.30 and I'd be in my office with my first coffee at 6.15. When I was working for a contractor (until 6 months ago) alarm went off at 7 and I was at work at 8.

5:00am my alarm clock is my 2 years old son , and I start work at 7am , mostly work untill 6/7pm ish but 9 times out of 10 do paperwork in the evenings , ...

700 or when the two year old decides to put the tv on lol. Van loaded by 0740 and off to work by about 8. Depending on how far travelling.

alarm clock usually set for 8, first job about 0830. sometimes later if ive been working late the day before or earlier if ive got loads to do or long distance to travel

:yawn10 to 15 minute be for i leave and i am getting worse

Alarm set at 06.30 like to be at work by 08.00 depending on how far to travel.

I thought that I should give my answer;)

For the last few years when I was employed my alarm used to go off at 6:30 and then into work for 7:30... finish at 15:30 though and gain an extra 2 days off per month flexi... it was all good!! (except for getting the up that is;))

One thing I promised myself when I went self employed was that I wasn't getting up at stupid times anymore (occasionally I will).. my alarm now goes off at 7:30 and I tend to start at 8:30 (either at customers or wholesalers)

Ooohhh,, I remember that;)

only thing is my daughter is 11 now and it's starting to go the other way

06:00 every morning regardless of even if I am working at home.

If I am travelling to N Wales then 03:00 or 03:30 depends.

Normally work on and of until about 11:00.

Ind/Comm & Dom.

Try to get on site when the customer opens for Ind/Comm, for Dom when suits this am Dom was 09:00.

Tomorrow need to be in the workshop by 07:00 but can't get there until 09:00 as I will have to wait until Mrs SW has done the school run as I have the parts for one of tomorrows jobs coming am delivery so someone needs to be home.

Tomorrow will be a long day, I have a load on!

Warranty visit, suppliers parts exploded

Same here mate.

Alarm goes off at 5:30, Out the door between 6:30 and 7:00 depening where we are going and what time we have to be there. Sometimes earlier but never later. Usually get back home around 6 - 7 pm, again sometimes later but rarely earlier. Thats employed doing mainly domestic, with a touch of commercial. It's wearing me down a bit now though...

mr smith finds this topic to be an interesting reflection on members psyche

would someone care to explain why the nature of the work

makes any difference to the waking up time

for myself

i do not posess an alarm clock

i awaken between 0630 and 0745

Alarm goes off at 6 am

i get coffee in bed at 6.10 am

get out of bed 6.40am

family breakfast at 6.50am

kids go to school at 7.30 am

i would leave for a house bashing job at that time

if it was other then customer doorstep by 8.30am

Thats domestic

Idustrial/commercial whenever the start time

I guess if its a domestic job you need to consider family getting up, ready for school etc. I always used to arrive just after 9 for domestic work. Commercial and retail is whenever you can get the place opened up and industrial is when you are allowed on site I guess.

7.30

at domestic jobs for 9.00

find it gives the client time to have their brekkie and deliver kids to school

With some domestic jobs...

Those with young children & the school run to do..

you often need to consider what part of the property you are working in..

e.g.

If you goto put tools in the migration path of a heard of schoolchildren getting out of the house, its best to wait for the dust to settle before trying to get stuck in...

If an elderly retired couple..

often they have been up since 5:00am having a cup of tea and you can be round and all started at 8:00 with no disruption..

If business worky types and they have left you the key to get stuck in..

Just get there when its convenient to you..

As a general rule I personally find there is not much point trying to drive between 8:30 & 9:15..

too many gormless school taxi service drivers clogging the road!

Alarm clock....??

I thought you just wait for the wife to kick you and say Get up!
