Is there a way to allow MS Word to update the date on multiple letters to save me having to change it each time I use a letter template.

Its ok doing it manually for a couple, but when I've got lots to do its a PITA:_|

Is it actually in the letter or stuck at top. if latter i know you can do it with a page header. otherwise, not too sure. Also, would it be 'todays date' your putting in or you just want all the dates to match first 1 you put in.

Sorted it, theres an option in the insert menu, date and time option.

I used to use that feature but realised it was a bit useless for historical records as every time you opened the document it would overwrite the date with todays date so I never knew what the date of the invoices was. Not sure of that was using the Insert > Date feature or something else similar, it was a while ago and I haven't use Office for years..

Same here...

so I don't use it now!

Here is a little known classic.

For those of you who are not on word 2007 or above you'll have to find the insert fields yourselves as I can't remember back that far.

Then

Go to "insert" - "quick parts" - "field"

Select date and then the type of date.

Now once the date in in the document you can disable the update by selecting the field and pressing "CNTL SHIFT F11" or "CNTL F11".

This disables the date update when the document is re-opened or printed.

Little gem.

Thouyght there would have been a simple way of turn it on or off once the document was opened. Tried the F11 options, but doesn't seem to work

Yeah, I think by the time you've done it's easier to just write the date in manually each time. I can press 8 keys that are just about next to each other and have a full date there. Using the "shortcut" means click this, press that etc... It would be longer to use anything other than the type it in method I think, hence why I binned the idea.
