Went in to WH Smiths today, got to checkout. One acned youth on his iphone stacking shelves

4 serve yourself lanes open

I dislike these as I feel you shopping should be cheaper AS you are doing their job for them,don't use the excuse that it keeps prices down because that is marketing bollocks....end of

Put my shopping through THEN the machine put a screen up asking me if I wanted to buy a Cadbury's Creme Egg?

Is this the thin end of the wedge?

Are we going to get "associated sales" when we go to a "pay as you Pee public toilet"....would you like to add a newspaper and some wet wipes to your order?

I despair, I really do

WH smith is a dead duck, no idea why anyone would go in there anymore? It's only because the distribute most of the newspaper's in the country that's keeping them afloat.

What do they sell? Lots of stuff that no one wants! So if they can flog you a creame egg your helping them stay alive...

Just...not caring enough to put up with their carp.

I tried one of those Tesco self service machines once.  to say it was not "user friendly" is an understatement.

It spent all it's time saying one of the following three :

"please place item on the belt"

"please remove item from the belt"

"unknown item on the belt"

Give me a human being any day, even a sour faced grumpy one.

Just before Xmas people were putting turkeys through as carrots at a Tesco near where i was working

Every credit to them, i wonder if that is why Tesco are in the faeces at the moment?

Or could it be because they treat their suppliers like something you would not wish to stand on and have stuck to the sole of your shoe.

And their reluctance to pay suppliers and imposition of "contributions" ie bribery. Suppliers have already discounted their stuff, Tesco have taken it, Tesco have sold it THEN Tesco want a "contribution" ie MORE discount! I know of two suppliers they have killed with their Charlatanic and morally corrupt practices

I was in the very large Sainsburys near me before Xmas - on 2 tills open, and a member of staff by the self scan - when asked if I needed help I replied curtley - YES, you need to open more tills!

I despise self scan

London Bridge Station W H Smith, 3 or 4 unmanned tills, 2 self service tills and one a chap from the Indian sub continent with a big smile standing there! You're late for your train and it goes t!ts up! "Can you help me please?" And he answers "Plis? Plis?". Big smile though.

Do they have these self service tills in the States I wonder. Can't see if I was a gun toting redneck that I wouldn't have slotted one by now! Have a nice day y'all!  :lol: The girl in our Co-op reckons she has people actually give the screens a belt they get so frustrated!

The thing is, IF the technology works, and IF it is secure (bearing in mind it is basically the same as is used now), then it is actually more secure by taking the person away, as they could "skim" your information?

i never use the self checkout things...

i have been known to leave everything next to the 'closed' checkouts instead us using the self service....

years ago I did the weekly shop

queued at checkout for ten minutes

gets to my turn and she announced sh was going on her break!

Now, I wired this place many years beforehand.

i asked if the staffroom was still at the back upstairs?

she replied'Yes'

so I advised her to put all my stuff back on the shelves after her brew

....i walked out to a round of applause from some other shoppers

i dare not show my face in there again for years
