?:| ? :| ?:| blue cable in the switch should have brown sleeving , that means its a switch live ??? please correct me if im wrong , I would humbly accept my ignorance..
This is why it is so important to correctly identifiy all cables properly.

If you find a blue cable sleeved brown it would be reasonable to suspect it is a correctly identified switch live.

However never take anything for granted.

If there is a blue cable in the switch equally treat with caution and never sleeve it brown because you think its a switch wire always test first.

Remember though you would seldom see a switch with one side live and the other side neutral, well not working anyhow :D

You can,t pass a neutral through a switch box. This can still be seen in B,ham City Hospital on one of the staircases. Re-tubing new lighting on the stairs a subbie working for us did the switch as illustrated. We said why not just have the switch box in the vertical tube, in the bottom and out the top.

The guy did his nut , really lost it , shouting that you can't have a neutral in the switch . Where do they get these ideas from ?

It amazes me how many guys have come up with this one, Had the same argument with Twin/E .

More to follow later.
Could that of been a Heath authority / hospital H&S rule?

rather than a wiring reg rule?

Deke?

True just like when they fit a shiny new light fitting all blue together and all brown together, and generally leave the earth off because its not needed. ;)

No Specs , the hospital engineer was the first to point it out , he didn't like it at all . He asked for it to be altered ,but the wall had been painted by then so its still there.

dont see any problem running neutral through switch! what next - no perm. live at lights?!
One of the Midlands local councils used to specify that , Andy, no 3 plate wiring in their council houses, ( No lives at fitting) Had to wire them with single/earth.
