Hi. I have had a small single story extension put at the back of my house, I want to put a new fuse box in there and take a feed from the existing one to make it live.  What size cable will I need to use for the feed? in the new extension there are 4 plug sockets, and 2 lights, and one light going outside. The new fuse box is a Wylex.

Get a sparky in to do it bud, cheaper and safer in the long run. Have you done the wiring for the extension yourself? There are too many variables to give you a more definitive answer than that. :Sorry:

This is essentially the installation of a sub-main and Zee is quite right.

Walk away from it.

By the way; :Welcome:

Hi Taid49,

Please do not think we are being obstructive, this sort of thing is far more complicated than you think.... Please do not think we are TRYING to make it sound difficult to run a "closed shop" for electricians or anything, cos we are not, we often help out DIY types, BUT, this is not a DIY job, we would need LOADS of info first, and even if we DID talk you through it, you would need to spend about £1000 on a meter just to test that it was safe once you had finished.. [and know what you were doing with the meter]

Before you ask, it would be illegal for someone to test your work and give you a cert, [which the building regs folks will want to see before they sign it off]

john...

Thanks very much for your quick and important replies.  I am taking your advice and will be contacting an Electrician.
