i applied for a job the other day and had a reply today but the bloke didnt wanna know after he asked if i was nic registered and i told him i am not.

he reckons you cant do testing without being registered

i have got 2391 and issue certificates from time to time

am i right in thinking you dont have to be registered with nic to issue certs????

No course not. Im with Napit, their not the NICEIC. Im only with them for the part P self certification scheme.

You dont have to be a member of any scheme to issue certs, you do to sign work off, which is domestic only.

Some people get it in to their heads you have to be NIC for everything in this trade. Good luck trying to convince him otherwise.

the EIC's are for shops and offices fletchflash but i don't expect ill be able to convince him i don't have to be registered

what do you mean 3rd party zeespark

This subject has been covered on every electrical forum numerous times including this one. The answer is, you do not have to be a member of any organisation & you also don't even have to have any qualifications to test & issue a certificate. You do have to be competent.

The bottom line is any person, company or council can choose who they want, and rightly or wrongly 99% of the time they will ask for a NICEIC registered person/company. That's why we joined the NIC and it was worth it.

im thinking of joining one of the organisations so i can sign off work in domestics but money at moment not good

im thinking of going with elecsa as they seem cheapest and on this forum ive seen posts saying they make it easy for you

thanks slipshod slapdash

thanks zeespark yes i know its a no no ive asked for this favour before and although some are relaxed about it ive also been told it can be very dodgy

bloody part p its the only thing holding me back right now i cant get enough work from my contacts in shops/offices etc and really could do with more domestic type work just money holding me back

thanks for all your response im going to bed now

other firms but in offices zeespark

I make a point on my certs to put Membership scheme: N/A on PIRs and take off the elecsa logo.

I've only had one landlord say "I was told you were NIC registered" and had to convince him I could sign off his CU change that had already been done.

The only way to convince him was to say to him ring Elecsa themselves.

Not sure what you mean by 'applied for a job' , do you mean being employed or doing this testing as a job of a self employed person. Whatever, most companies don't have testing carried out off their own back, their insurance company or head office may have insisted and they may be the ones asking for a NICEIC company.

It's an old chestnut, the NIC have sold themselves very well, so well that I think sometimes even they think they write the regs... About 10-15 years ago a large national organisation refused to accept some ECA Perodic Inspection Certificates (or pay for the work...) because they "weren't valid, they didn't have the NICEIC logo on them."

it took me a good few conversations with a property group to convince them i was part p registered because they thought NIC were the only ones

i ended up sending the company a copy of my membership cert and a phone number

convinced him after he made a call,,,,,,admitted he was nieve in not knowing

its worth the money to be a member of a scheme imo as the customer has more confidence in you.
