Hello All

I'm hoping this is the best forum for my irritating problem.

Just had a new kitchen installed and the transformer serving the worktop lights is buzzing. I was simply going to replace it, but both the transformers serving the projector & screen (which are both in the ceiling) are also buzzing. My research suggests this is likely to be a problem with the mains but I've been unable to figure out a solution.

Anyone have any ideas?

Thanks in advance

Welcome to the forum. The information you have given is rather vague but if you say this has just been installed then the most logical first step is to ask the suppliers or installers to come back and look first in case it is a warranty issue due to something being faulty. It is quite normal for electricity to make noise, (hums, buzzing etc) when passing though some components, quite often the cheaper lower brand components are the noisiest. If these are then unsuitably mounted onto plaster board or cabinets that have hollow sections quite a considerable echo-box effect can be evident making a small hum into a louder irritation. Is the equipment installed in positions recommended by the manufacturer, are they designed to work how you have them installed. If you have had work done by a kitchen fitting company it is not uncommon for them to do the quickest and easiest method of install to suit their timescales, rather than a little bit more quality and effort to fully follow manufactures instructions which may or may not reduce unwanted side effects. The physical cable routing could also cause additional induced voltages between cables which may or may not exasperate the problem. Have you got any make or model numbers or photographs of actually what equipment you have had installed? This may help others shed a bit more light onto the problem.

I forgot to add, if the kitchen electrical work had just been done, and you are not in Scotland, then this should have been in accordance with Part P building regulations. Which basically means you should have certificates confirming it all complies with current wiring and building regulations. As such any problems with your mains supply such as poor earths, incorrect polarity, excessive or reduced supply voltage, should all have been checked by the electrician who tested and certified your amended electrical work.

i thought if someone said my installation was buzzin' that was a good thing nowerdays??

I'd take a guess that they are cheap 'uns TBH. Or they are undersized.

What is this projector and screen in your kitchen ?

And if they have just been fitted , get the fitters back . ( Or are they those special type kitchen fitters that no one can ever get back .? )

Fitted a cheapo doorbell transformer on a rewire once , never heard such a row in your life , it was fixed to board over a door which amplified it . Threw it back at the wholesaler and fitted an old trusty Freidland from our stock.
