Believe it or not you can actually get them from CPC. FFS, thought they were banned years ago. Something to do with 'A joint having to be disassembled by means of a tool', so that is why Midgets and Normals were banned [and YES they are called Midgets and Normals and NOT Screwits, Screwits was the company that made them]...bring back Blakeley tape and the 'flying tape splice' is what I say......harrrrrumph

How convenient the old base plate matches the new light!

Fortunately there was only 2 wires to connect, well i've always thought an earth wire is a luxury on a metal fitting

Ohh and no testing after replacing the light, well USA has no part p

And lighting circuit on a 20A mcb

But it is USA so I guess that's ok

Twister wire nuts are made by Ideal industries I've use them a lot much quicker and easier than choccy blocks and makes a sound joint in my opinion.

The selection kit I bought from Neweys cost me

They sell them in CEF. I was surprised at how well they seem to grip the conductors but couldn't convince my business partner that they would be good enough a joint in the long term. I guess they wouldn't get the CE mark if they hadn't undergone rigorous testing.

how many hands does that guy have ...........3 at 30sec and 4 at 1min 8sec LOL

Nicky, I thought you didn't like all these fancy gadgets

I know no-one will agree with me, cos you have always been told it is wrong, but i dont have a problem with taped up chocblocks at all, as long as they are done well and show a degree of finesse.
I do the joints so that they double back and lie against the cables (loop in, loop out and cable to the fitting) and then double back again to the light fitting, taping up the joint and all the cables together, so pulling on one cable doesnt put any strain on the joint connections. And it looks neat.
:D

(the vet never forgets!)

That was spotlights and i still stand by that but maybe i should use the toothpaste tops now instead ....LOL

I started a thread here a year or so back when i stayed with my brother in Canada and he asked me to put up all his new lights. It really is that easy over there, no tools needed. Their code is there has to be a box and it has to be fixed to the structure, not a fast fix type arrangement. The box's all come with the mounting & fixing screws. In Canada almost everything uses 'Jones' head screws which are a square hole.
