old wired door chime

a door chime has stopped sounding its a wired one I presume its old bell wire.If i were to put a wired kit in how many cores does a bell wire need for it to work normally?between chime and push sure its 2 the last one i did had a transformer?

Check the transformer.

Check the pushbutton.

Check the bell.

Replace whatever is faulty.

Simple.

Why do you need to rip it all out and start again?

Same way as a loop in lighting circuit I tend to use 2 core 0.5 mm flex especially if its longish runs or use alarm cable and double, treble the cores up
