Guys,

I have been hunting the net for "Roofing Bolts" hopefull szes - 110mm, 130mm & 150mm for my Concrete Sectional Garage.

(Would prefer to have the Hex nuts as opposed to the Square nuts" but hey.

There is a family run business in Reading, called "Dad's Shop" that have been going for 44+ Years, apparently, but there are no prices on there, at all.

Has anyone had any experience of this place? Any feedback on it?

I have e-mailed to see if he/she could give me a price.

Many Thanks,

Admin.

They have to be Roofing bolts Mate - A mix of M6 & M8's, I think Mate.

100mm, 130mm and 150mm - Along with 1" Washers. I would prefer to put Hex Nuts on them as I can't stand those Square nuts.

Most places only do them upto 100mm, including Toolstation. :|

Many Thanks,

Admin.

Admin,

Try the link I posted they have roofing bolts some with hex nuts, they may not be exactly the length you need, but they were within 10mm IIRC, just chop a bit off the end with a hacksaw, I'll lend you mine & a vice if you want!

You can get penny washers there also or in many fastener stores.

You can also just get hex nuts and swap the square ones over.

If you want you can search through my mixed box of nuts & bolts to find enough hex nuts to suit, but it may take you a while, and you can have them for nowt if you look them out.

I have never used the supplier I posted mind.

Thanks Sidewinder,

I have that one already stored on my Desktop. - Thank You though.

I have Hacksaws and a Vice down the Workshop. - Thank You once again, though.

I need a large quantity of these (Various Sizes).

I used to buy the things (And Threaded long Bar) from the old J.S Jones Builders Merchants in Neath. (the business has been sold now - but they are still cheap there, apparently).

Many Thanks Mate,

Admin.

John has sold up, but his son Jamie (!) is running a saw mill and has some horsey type stuff, they may have such things, but they have sold out to BuildBase who also may still have such beasts.

That is correct Sidewinder, Sir.

I think as is the common case you are mistaking "roofing" bolts with spouting bolts(3/8" square nuts on 6mm).

if you can use threaded bar I have meters of the stuff you can have, mostly 8 and 10mm though.

I hate the fact that it has got so common now that even manufacturers are putting roofing bolts on the packaging.

BAH.!

Albert,

You may have a few years on me but I had never heard the term spouting bolt around here before, always as long as I can remember roofing bolts!

Just done a web search and found one company listing both and they look identical from the pictures, there may be differences though.

Just not a term I have heard!

roofing bolts by their nature have a larger dish/flange on them and a fibre/rubber washer fitted, but in all honesty nowadays they are all classed as roofing/spouting bolts.

how you would use them to secure your roof and keep it waterproof is another matter.

but have a look at the brackets on your downpipes or soil pipe and you may well see said bolts, but I doubt you will actually see them on any roofs.

Can't agree more!

It always puzzled me why roofing bolts were so called for this very reason, I just decided not to buck the trend!

Makes sense obviously, just don't know how the terms came about.
