Just been to collect some monies due from a customer this afternoon and while there the customer asked if I had some screws that would keep the top on his outside lantern which apparently blew of in the wind!! . Looking at the fitting which was a bit passed it's best I noticed some bell wire going underneath it. Alarm bells ringing I mentioned this and he said is it safe? Bell wire, no earth to a class 1 fitting then he showed me the switch in the hallway, A 25mm surface mounted box and yes bell wire coming out of the top. I advised him not to use the light until the wiring could be improved. He agreed with this and said that he will choose a new light and can I come back and do the remedials..No problem said I. I await further instructions. :|

Probably not but you can only advise and move on. I wont be losing sleep over it thats for sure..

Phewww!!!!!!!!!

Thought that was one of my jobs then......

But remembered I always use 6-core alarm cable for outside lights.....

Gives you two spare pairs in case the first pair melt!!!!

:p :popcorn

Steps has never seen carpet so he wouldn't know about that.....

But he does a nice job selotaping wires round the edge of the lino..

and staple gun the rest to the floorboards!

 ] :)

and?......

I'll have you know that its proper sellotape, not that pound shop tat Deke tried to talk me into buying off him.!!!!

you'd think to hear you guys there was something wrong with that, just cause yoiu's cant fire the staples into the centre of the bell wire doesnt mean we are all rough.!!!

You think thats bad I got called out to a faulty outside light now this was seriously past its sell by date the whole top was rusted away and had a massive hole open to the elements it was fed from a 2 amp socket under the porch which really was not that waterproof probably been like that for 40 years. Told them to get a new fitting and I would come back and fit it luckily the cable was long enough to do away with 2 amp socket so all worked out ok in the end.
