Tom1 talks about being over cautious in his thread , made me think of offering this one up for the guns to take range on.

By coincidence my mate and myself did the same job at different places . A plug was required in the loft , for an aerial amplifier . I connected a 1 gang 13amp socket to the lighting circuit , 6amp MCB .

My mate on his job, ran a 2.5mm in mini trunk ,down into the floor and spured off the ring. His thinking was someone could plug in something and overload the circuit.

My thinking was ,amplifier 1amp no problem, if anyone climbs into the loft and plugs in a 3KW heater , the 6amp MCB will trip .

Would agree with your mate. Sorry Sandra.

I would have spurred off lighting too but to sfcu and wired tv booster into that.

Id prob do the same as you did mate but only thing I can think of is they will be up in the loft in the dark with no lights on next floor down either if it trips, but if they know the layout then no probs.

Cheers

More likely in the loft with out lights. That would be fun and would get cold fast as 3kw heater will be off too :p .

What about labeling the socket for tvamp use only or fitting a 5A socket (and then charging

label the socket for its specific purpose only. then its down to someone ignoring this information if they choose to.

Steeling my ideas Wozz? :p

I've done all of the above, but technically you shouldn;t be fitting the 13A socket to the lighting circuit. From a common sense approach if you label it then it should be fine, and if it's got a TV amp already in it it is unlikely someone will turn off all the TV's in the house just to warm up the loft, but from a regulations POV it is a possibility so either fit a 5A socket or FCU or wire the 13A socket to a suitably rated circuit for it to be right, technically.

The same

also label the CU for the next sparky

off the topic a bit but what about 2 1G socket spur as aposed to one double, and put it down as a deviation?

you can't overload the cable can you thats what the mcb will prevent

could have fitted a 5a socket or plug-in click tho ;)

Hacking my computer and stealing my ideas ian? ;) :p my post was sitting there a while before i sent as football distracted me...

Interesting comments guys. The thing about a spur or a 5 A socket is ,as the aerial guy said, he can't connect to a spur or would have to fit a 5 A plug top, Booster comes with a 13A plugtop fitted.

its fine man. its obvious what its for and if someone plugs in there lawn mower in the loft they've other pressing issues :^O

What about spur off the lighting circuit to FCU, fuse down to 3/5A and then connect a SSO to the FCU?

That way you have the protection of the fuse AND don't invalidate your warrenty on the booster?

Doesn't matter how it looks - it's in the loft. Extra cost ~
