It looks like the paving company who are paving my garden have driven over my SWA with there 3.5 tonne digger. The outer sheath isnt damaged so i'm just hoping they havent crushed the inner cores bad day explode

I did tell them to be careful with it, perhaps I should have told them it was connected up and live.

Not really got time to test the cable until thurs or friday :(

+2

how long is it going to take to do an IR test on one cable that isn't even terminated??

15min max (and most of that would be getting your tester out of the van and putting it back)

The cable was buried at 500mm and put in black waste pipe + warning tape as I didnt have the time to order any ducting. At the end of the garden which was originally next to the fence panel and gravel board, about 2 metres of cable was left lying against the fence but looped and taped up.

The paving company when I was away, removed the fence panel and gravel board for the digger to gain access to the garden. I was told they were going to use a small digger which could have entered through the gate.

Got back home late tonight, had to cook tea for family etc and now too tired but maybe try tomorrow night to test cable when I get back.

What did it say in their Method statement and risk assessment or didn't you get one?

Ah, ....so they have run-over the above ground looped end then!! I wondered how a digger for paving, would have had to dig so deep to hit your cable ...lol!!!.

So what's the visual external condition of the SWA cable like, ...Fattened?? ...What size is it by the way??

Well I was going to ask you Badger to do it, but I was not sure if you knew what you were doing :slap

Joking aside, its a 6mm 3 core armoured, the cable does look a bit bent over where it exits the ground out of the now split waste pipe. However the cable sheath does not look damaged or flattened.

in all seriousness though i doubt an armoured 6mm 3c would have bothered about a digger driving over it too much if it hasnt caused any exteral / noticable damage to the sheath,

id double check with megger just to be safe like but ill bet the steel armouring has probably protected it more than likely.

Yes hopefully will all be well with the cable, especially as I worked really hard on sunday digging the blxxdy trench for it!

Someone asked i think Badger about what the cable is for, well its coming from 20 amp rcbo main cu (Nice new shiny Wylex high integrity Board), looped into MK IP 56 2 gang socket on the house exterior wall. From there it is buried for about 11metres to other end of garden.

I then left 2 to 3 metres spare so it can go inside the shed to feed a smallish consumer unit which will then feed a couple of MC sockets for any hand/power tools and weatherproof batten inside shed.

There will also be some led decking lights and a PIR light installed once I have done the decking in the next couple of months.

Part P covered by building notice which isnt that much in Dudley borough ;)

Paving company?????You ain't disposing of bodies under a patio are you Robin???

]:)
Ha ha ha, well sort of threatened my daughter the other day if she didnt behave then her dolls were going to be buried in the trench. But I didnt mean it, Really :x :innocent

Stripped the cable tonight at the house end, meggered between all 3 cores and the armour and all seems fine >500Megohms on all conductors:)
