Have you tried switching it off and on at the plug ? ; \

If it's crashing often a sure sign of overheating, otherwise check that it's not going into hibernation mode (I think this was a bug with Vista a while back)

If its a virus or something that forces a shut down, there is a way to abort the shutdown

yea sounds like a mobo or ram problem, cant "guess" without more information tho

i do know my round a pc, many moons ago i was big into pc`s i wont bore you with what i used to do lol... its very geeky ..
