I've just acquired a new bathroom electric towel warmer with three wires in the cable: brown (live), blue (neutral), and black ('pilot'). The wall plate has red (live), black (neutral) and green/yellow earth. I appreciate the device is double insulated, so do I just park the black pilot wire from the device?

Interesting question. They say that for a rail with a control unit, with which mine is fitted, the black pilot wire should be connected to a corresponding black pilot wire from the supply. If there is no control unit the device's black cable is parked. Bearing in mind the only control unit is integrated with the device it's difficult to interpret.

is this some 'chad valley' stuff you have?

is it BS approved?

seriously sounds like it may not be,

Im seriously concerned about the lack of an earth wire. :|

If the controller is fitted to the towel rail you would expect to find the supply flex complying with the relevent standards,,,Br -Blu - G/Y .

Is it marked up as double insulated?

Are you missing a seperate controller possibly ?

I notice that there is no mention in the instructions of the fact that you will have a live and switched live present at the appliance and therefore require 3 pole isolation.

Potential recipe for DIY disaster methinks...

may not need 3 pole isolation, but definately 2 pole

Done two schemes for a housing association a couple of years ago with the Dimplex system. Brilliant system, just like central heating but all electric.

Black wire at the appliance does nothing so if not used insulate and forget.
