Hi,

Got a customer who has asked me to change an outside PIR light and have a look at override switch as its a bit hit n miss apparently.

Ive never dealt with a pir light with override switch so was looking for some pointers on how to go about it.

I need to understand how it overrides it?

Any advice appreciated as always

Thanks

Matty

Some PIR lights have the following system ,

Turning on the power puts the light into security mode. Interrupting the supply briefly (turning the switch off & back on again quickly) forces the light to stay on, some makes till dawn, some until its turned off. This method was designed to make switching easy if the light was retrofitted. Your switch could be a simple on-off.

Doing one on Wednesday. My understanding is by operating the switch in quick succession will keep the light on until you switch it off again.. Customer only wants the light to come on when someone approaches the porch.

Hi,

Ive been looking for a suitable light but none of the ones in screwfix say anything about override. At the risk of looking stupid would they show this in the instructions or can they all be overridden?

Thanks

BTW this has been wired up with a double switch inside the house. One to turn the PIR light on and the other is the override.

rarely mentioned in the instructions but i've found even the cheap ones have the mode facility

edit to add to your merge: well in that case you have all the cables needed so even if your new light does not have this mode facility your good to go
