a portable appliance is class 1 if?

a.it is made entirely of plastic.

b.the metal case is insulated from current carrying conductors and isolated from any earth connection.

c.all non current carrying conductive parts have to be connected to the cpc in the flexible cord.

d.it cannot be moved when in use.

It has Metal parts not normally live (i.e. case) which must be connected to earth to provide fault protection in the event of it becoming live.

It will have 3 cre flex not just 2 as in class 2 appliances

 
yeh thats about it, class 1 needs a protective conductor due to metalic parts

class 2 no earth double insulated plastic
