hello chaps,

customer wants power to a pond for pump etc.... any advice or things to look out for?

she also wants th power supply carried on to a gazebo (light and socket) can i do this from the same supply or is it another run?

thanks

You could take feed into a waterproof socket and then onto another socket at gazebo and then into spur for light. For the small current needed a 13 amp spur would be adequate.

thanks batty, so your saying to run the pump off a socket? i have not done one before so have no idea how they get there power. thanks

also, could i spur off a socket in the house or do i need to put a new feed in?

Would go for 12v pond pump - if pump leaks whilst it is turned off, then pond can be 'live' without tripping RCD and as ponds are insulated with plastic/rubber it doesn't short out until someone sticks hand in water whilst standing on earth :( . I understand this has killed people. Other than that armoured cable or syflex is good. If controls are to go near pond, mounting on a pole about a foot above ground level is always a good idea to prevent water/ insect life ingress. and generally try to avoid damage by spades and lawnmowers :D

Smiths do a water proof socket with external switch, so you don't have to keep opening / closing flap to turn pump on and off. Don't ask me where to get one, you'll have to do internet search.

But thats what the RCD is for is it not?

thanks guys, can i spur off a socket in the house though? or do i need a new feed from cu?
You could, but if there was a fault on the outside bit it would take the ring out. A dedicated circuit would be better IMO, but if not possible you could spur.
