This thread is part of the testing and inspection I posted a few days ago..

Now I am having trouble pricing it as I have said I havnt certified any body's work Beograd other than our own...

Now I know the price I would put in if it was my own but do any of you add any on as it's not?

3 phase dist board with say 20 single phas ways

3 zone bi wire fire system

1 emergency lighting system

I was thinking of may be adding 20% on??

Your thoughts please

probably a bit more too!!!!

you are gonna have to start searching for end of lines, mid points etc,

checking routes and fixings,,,,,,,,,,,

are you sorting out any non-compliances? or is it a re-visit after they have been sorted?

Im looking at bout 500 ish for elec

250 for fire

200 ish for emergency lighting

The installers will be with me at the time so they know what CCTs are what ect

I have asked for the dist board to be marked up ect and labeled on spurs and lighting

Don't know just wants us to do it. I have no problem doing it if I find any thing wrong or out of regs I will be making notes of every little bit .

I was just wondering what sort of PIR you will do on the Fire alarm system? If theres anything wrong with the wiring the system will be telling you anyway.

I wouldn't be meggering it if I were you .

Are the emergency lights mains or central system ?. If Mains then they will be part of your circuit testing . Just need to isolate the electronics for testing .

I know how to test.....

And yes mains system for em..

I don't megger fire system any way

And also he will be requiring a em cert as well

Electroglow,

When you say mains system for EM, is this a central system or individual fittings?

BTW, do you have the fire alarm & em lighting standards for the type of building in question?

Yes I do... Fire officer has already been round and gave him the requirements with documents

As far as I am aware he had gave a list of requiremts for this property

Eg install 3 fire curtains and 3 smokes above false ceiling things like that with reg numbers

That is OK, but, to inspect & test, then issue certs for the FA & EM Ltg, you must be in possession of the relevant standards to comply with what is considered acceptable practice.

Thats what I meant , are you doing a PIR or are you a Fire Alarm expert inspecting and certifying the system .

Emergency lights the same , are you certifying them to BS 5266 and can you do that ?

I did a PIR this year , inspected the Em. Lts as if they were any 240v light fitting , as to whether there are enough of them or their lumens output , thats for others TBH . all I'm saying is they are wired in safely . The customer tests a different one each week, and I'd say it was an adequate system buts thats not my concern as a sparks doing a PIR .

Fire Alarm is tested every week , zones are monitored , I'm not touching it ( Warning horn on 1st floor stuffed with paper to reduce sound is not an electrical problem , I took it out a couple of years ago when replacing a light nearby, staff replaced it following the next test) Am I my brother's keeper?

If they keep stuffing paper in the sounder I would make reference to it in the report, advising them of the consequences and this may cover you if the place burns down and nobody hears the horn. Years ago I cancelled a profitable maintenance contract due to them not wanting to update system and so much wasn't working and they would not fork out to get it fixed. As there were over 100 overseas students living there, when the boss asked why I had cancelled I told him does he want his firm to be the one doing maintenence contract on f/a and E/Ltg if the place burned down and there systems had failed every maintenance check for 3 years.

Thanks John 'o London , when we rewired that floor I included it on the cert in observations on existing installation and pointed it out to their boss . As I said , I'm the sparks not their H&S officer. Its been like that for 7 years .
