Our multi function printer/scanner etc is starting to play up so maybe its time to replace it ................ so I was thinking about getting a printer where I could refill the cartridges

Anybody doing this now?

And yes I realise some of these are more expensive but I was thinking about all the plastic waste we generate .............

No....

Still on buying cartridges...

But they seem to have been getting more expensive over the past 12months..

And (may be wrong but) don't appear to last quite so long...?

:C

(still got and (old) HP multi-function jobbie that is getting on a bit... But still does the business...…   "At the moment").

I was actually thinking of posting the same thing .   My HP  printer /copier/ scanner   throws a wobbly if you try fitting non HP cartridges   but I'm twice the cost  of  generic cartridges .

Its a fact , I think , that printers are very cheap to buy  and make their profits by ripping us off for follow up  inks .

This is very true.

In fact commercial printers generated that entire business model.

I don't print that much, I had a few printers and found if it wasn't used for a couple of weeks the ink dried in the nozzles, I ended up getting a black and white laser printer, last year, I'm still on the first cartridge with no problems. Ok a cartridge is about 50 quid, but if it lasts then fair enough, I had a spell of printing photo's which was my main reason for colour, but now it's cheaper to just run down to the local Asda, I think last time I went it was about 5p a print for the amount I needed.

I think printers are a bit like buying certain tools, what you buy depends on how often you are going to use it.
