So I have just completed a 7 day ban. The reason was sort of because of challenging the objectivity of a thread? I am not going to mention which thread nor which staff member was involved so if we could keep it that way I think it would be best.

1. Why does challenging a thread in a polite way and asking questions warrant a ban?

2. Is there anything within the rules that reflect this?

3. What does it take for any particular thread to get this vip treatment?

I would ask these questions via pm but the person that banned me specifically told me not to reply to them as they were too busy.

This is not a rant but rather me trying to understand what the forum is hoping to gain by stamping on threads like this? I must say I do not think it is a sensible way to do things but who am I. Not as if we pay to be members. Is it? ; -)

What makes it even more uncomfortable is that someone has gone into my inbox a deleted personal conversations that I had about this particuler issue?

I didn't see your input to the thread, but I know which one it is. I actually seemingly share some of your doubts and the forum owners have had a discussion behind the scenes.

Fundamentally all the mods, admins and owners are here in our free time. We are supportive of discussion and free speech - as long as you remain inside the law. Sometimes it is better to start a new thread rather than dragging specific one off topic.

Generally these things come as the result of a complaint or report of another member. If that is justified then the perpetrator is told and posts edited or removed. It's when they start arguing that it becomes easier to give them a 'holiday'. Particularly at this time of year.

It possible that the messages dissappeared if they were to a forum Admin.I am told by the people who do our software that if things are deleted by an admin they will dissappear completely.

Because of our history of arguments Essex, I have washed my hands of dealing with you, so I cannot comment on what has been done.

I am aware of what has happend, and, I will not condemn the staff involved.

Have you considerd that your annoyance may have just been "the straw that broke the camels back" as it were, perhaps your comments or criticism, or PM, simply pushed the staff member over the edge, which would not have happend if you had perhaps had a differnt attitude in the past?

I'd suggest you may be better making your inquiries into staff actions by PM with an Admin rather than by public discussion in the actual forums.

You may be correct SW. The message I got from the staff was way out of order. Very very rude and threatening. I posted it in a the forum and removed the name that sent it and that is when I was banned. I have no real issue with that to be honest.

My issue is why has this thread recieved this vip treatment. For example - posts in favour of the thread are left in. Posts challenging the thread are removed and members banned.

My point is simply - is this fair?

We do,NOT pay to be members

Some of us choose to increase our level of membership above 'basic' to avail ourselves of the additional priveleges which this bestows upon us.....also,it gives the forum much needed funds. Bandwidth is not free

I have never expected my membership level to make me immune from a Fatwah by the Admins.

I completely agree and that is not what I am saying. Just that as far as I know I have broken no rules and debated politely. Agree or not with my views does not warrent a ban surely?

dont forget the forum is privately run. providing its not against any laws, then the owners can do as they want

I didn't realise that you had posted the content of a PM from a Admin in open forum, name included or not, if I had, I would have tried to ban you myself.

Mind, that in itself would have probably gone wrong, hence why I leave such things to the Mod & Admin team!

Of course and I get that. Clearly the owners are reasonable people that would not throw their weight around.

I you would have read the content you may have had a different view. It was very nasty.

Looking back I should have hit the report button but then what if the same person got the report? Lose lose situation. Clearly I made the wrong deciscion.

No - it's not. That's not why you were banned - it was posting PMs. That is not allowed (whoever sent it) the content is private in its nature. 

As I said in my first reply - feel free to start a new thread. Feel free to PM me.

I think no one has a right to view or delete anything in you pm box, that is way out of order.
