Well, been in business for 6 months now and been flat out for that time. All of a sudden it is like someone has disconnected my phones and work is scarce. I know now is the time to bash the phones and get the business in again but for 6 months we haven't had to - it just kept rolling in. We work for some organisations which are reliant on budgets so maybe that doesn't help. Also, builders we work for are quiet so naturally it rolls downhill. How is everyone finding things?

My mate who I do alot of work for is feeling it too. He's been In business 30 years and and I thought he was fine but he's having trouble getting paid by some firms and work is slowing down. Im getting a few jobs as I'm just getting out there but having to diversify as work is scarce. I'm doing a decorating job I priced in a few weeks then doing a patio conversion after that. There is some electrical work involved in the patio job but I'm having to do the patio too. Needs must. It'll build me up a bit with some hard graft involved unlike our normal sparkie graft lol.

I find it always goes quiet n we get depressed and then something comes along and it picks up again. Hope you get some work in soon matey. I got a few non payers which you can sort out if ya wanna mate for a fee lol.

I've got a few cases where companies arnt paying and it really fs me off that I've done honest work for them and they think they can knock ya. It's a choice of the legal route or pass the debt to a good friend who will happily collect if you gt me. I dont wanna go down this route, have you ever done this?

Cheers

Lol! Hmm, my past is certainly colourful - enough said. However, as I get older my attitude is changing a little and as far as business is concerned I would always pursue debts in the correct manner and through the appropriate channels. Years ago I owned a small advertising company and was forced into legal action against 8 or 9 companies to chase debts. It was actually very easy to sue and I was always successful thankfully. As for collecting debts due 'outside' of the business then I still pursue things through the legal system (as I am currently doing so), but revenge is a different matter and always best served 'cold'.

Quiet?? QUIET????

I`m not as busy as "quiet", TBH - I think my `phone doesn`t work anymore - cos it doesn`t ring much!!!!

AND I`ve got a couple of slow payers - not a happy bunny ATM!!!

I think the key is fingers in Pies , myself , it's quite , but the people I sub to has make it busy for me , on my customers are the usual domestic/commercial/industrial people but I also have builders , a kitchen fitting company , a fireplace fitting company , 3 other electricians and an alarm company based in different places , a shop fitting company etc ... Doing it this way I have found that when one customer is quite the rest pick up ....

So to put it simply , don't just stick to domestic try and get in with different trades and industry's .

Ohh and I alaways have a project of my own on the go , even if it doesn't make lots of money and just Pays the lads wages.

I think this year is just about staying a float ...I think every one will feel the pinch one way or another

Yes things are a little slower, but I like it that way sometimes. I've still got 2 new builds to second fix and another new build to start next month, until then, just small jobs.

Regarding bad payers, the only time I have had that, I just told them if I had not been paid by the end of the week I would hand the matter over to a debt collection agency. I was paid next day.

I've 'been on my own' now for 2 years...far too convoluted story to go into. Work has been near enough constant for this time. I have some good customers whom I have worked for for years. My 'remit' is so varied.....comms, data, fiber, UPS systems, Server rooms as well as Commercial. A bit of domestic, but only for people I know. I am too old for moving furniture about and as for crawling under floors...no way. My work takes me all over the UK and into Europe occasionally [though not often enough!!!]

Never really know what is round the corner or coming next AND it is all without advertising, not even got a sign written vehicle! Touch wood....all ok so far!

:coat

That's the one thing that worries me. I'm currently employed in comms, but am starting to do domestic jobs as I've completed my sparkies courses, and don't know whether to leave current job (as it's boring) and do sparkying or what!

I am slightly fortunate in that the work I do 75% is specialist, and not many are doing it, the other 25% is large commercials. I have started to import my own light fittings saving around 70% on normal trade prices, I have even been asked to supply a national retailer, but I am not large enough to do that as yet. I have invoices still unpaid from as late back as October last year, and whilst my present turnover is good the profit margins have been reduced. To keep in work some jobs have had to go out at cost with no profit, not good business but it pays the wages, my normal mark up on materials is 35% and is now the only profit I make on any job. Thats how hard things are.

lambing?....is that the art of drinking 'Lambrini'...................it's been a long week, sorry
No it's the art of inserting your well lubricated arm into a sheep's vagina with the aim of sorting a jumble of legs and heads into birthable groups!

:D

You did ask!

Now you're talking! Get some smutty pics up - there are plenty of us Welsh here ; -)

I am still ticking over, but I have taken to reasess my income and expendature

I have cut Yellow pages / Yell by 80% as all it gets you is sales calls and low paying jobs

I am keeping on top of my jobs and things are quieter, but not dead

Similar to the way it was when I started
