Hi,

Over the past 3 years my mum has had breast cancer and overian cancer but is clear now but my dad has got lung cancer and is terminal. They are trying new drugs all the time (trials).

I want to run the race for life but it's for woman only. Do you think this is sexist as everyone suffers from cancer and even some men do suffer from breast cancer.

Should it be opened up so men and woman can run?

Cheers

Is this your way of telling the group you would like to start dressing in ladies clothing?

It's fine by me, what you do in your own time has nothing to do with me

If it was me I would just wear a wig treat it as a laugh and go for it!

On a serious note cancer research does have some mixed events

One in Manchester in may and also two in London in may and later on

I think they are 10k events

M4tty,

I have always thought that it strange to let women only run this essential fund rasing event. I am sure that there are masses of men who would do this too.

Sorry to hear this M4tty, the same happened to my Dad.

I guess the women only thing is because of the breast cancer , I suppose you could always start one for men only.

Oh and contrary to popular opinion I don't really have anything to assist you in entering the women's race.

My dad had prostate cancer in his early 60's and I now raise money each year for our largest local charity which provides care for patients with terminal prognosis.

Every year we do a 5 or 10 mile walk in conjunction with Gloucester Rugby Club. Around 700 men only attend the event and it is hosted by Phil Vickery (Ex England & British Lions rugby player) and is called the 'Men's Walk' for a pie and a pint. We start off at Kingsholm rugby ground, walk and on our return are given a pie and a pint for free, followed by a free ticket to the premiership match that day. It is a great day and as a company we endorse it and try to raise as much money as possible.

I too have often thought it ridiculous that men cannot enter the race for life and to be honest, I wouldn't be surprised in the next couple of years if it isn't opened up to men as they have, I believe, been struggling with numbers of women to the extent that it actually jeopordises the event all together.
