You are not getting your two sets of digits mixed up are you!No not using a lappy.Wonder if it will work on firefox? or has that got nothing to do with it?
e.g. on a desk top you have number 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,0 along the top row.
you also have the keypad on the right hand side..
7,8,9
4,5,6
1,2,3
0.
the two positions of each digit can be interpreted differently by the computer, i.e. top row 1 is not the same as keypad 1.
If you are on a laptop the keypad numbers 1..0 are overlayed over some of the letters,
with the exception of 7,8,9, which are overlayed over each other!
The "Alt" function goes way back to the early days of DOS operating system,
Every character symbol has a value 0..255 within the ASCII character set.
By putting in the numeric value of the character you can get the character onto the screen,
but this must be done using the NUMERIC KEYPAD whilst holding the Alt function key.
Back in them days, 100's of fonts and loads of weired and wonderful special language characters were just a dream in the computer manufactures eyes,
they didn't have the memory to play around with, just a couple of 360K floppy drives! So it was the ASCII character set, (originally only 0..127). with the odd minor embellishment hear or there!
And in the true realms of backward compatibility... ALT & Number pad values should still work, unless the program you are running overrides it for some other purpose!
(p.s. you also have two lots of INS,DEL,HOME,END,PGUP,PGDN etc.. which can also be programmed to function differently!)
