The title should be self explanatory really!

Client wants to use this kit, he is supplying and I/we will fit it.

Does anybody know of any pitfalls with their wired system? I was thinking of a bit of a 'belt 'n'n braces install where i will run a Cat6 [his choice] to each switching control point AND a 3 core and earth. This will be left disconnected BUT is there in case there is a problem in the future. Does this sound overkill/stupid OR a cunningly devised and worthwhile addition? Money is not a major issue............... :coat

I would not bother with the 3 core and earth, it's a proven system and works, a bit like the Lutron system with mood lighting etc.

We priced a big job where RAKO was specified earlier this year, sadly we did not get it, but I needed to contact them a few times with regard to the wired and wireless systems.

Rako is nice a simple, can be used retrofit.

Don't bother with wired, use wireless.

Go on the training, it's free and great

Ash, I prefer to go with the wire route and use the wireless if we need to get of a sticky situation.

A lot of the barn refurbs we do have 3ft walls and silver backed plasterboard and foil roof insulation which plays havoc with the wireless signal, also makes wireless broadband a big no no.

I found Rako very helpful on the phone, but the kit is not cheap, wise controls are a little cheaper.

Personally I would never install a wireless systems unless there was no other way of doing it. If the place is getting a full rewire then a DIN rail system like, C-bus, Dynalite and even Lutron can work out about the same sort of price as the Rako gear, the Hamilton Litestats Mercury product is nice as well and they will do RAL finishes or just about anything you ask of them etc.
