I once lost my martindale plug in tester and couldn't for the life of me remember last time I had used it so ended up buying a new one...... Some 6 months later was asked to replace some light fittings for an old chap I'd previously worked for, went into little cubby hole to switch electric off only to see blinking green flashy lights ....... On showing customer he tells me he noticed it but thought it was an electric alarm and meant everything was ok...... Been plugged in for 6 months

 
Many many years ago a twonk of an apprentice lost my yellow floating rechargable lantern torch, prat.

About 20 years later I was up in a roof on a regular site ( even had my own workshop/ office there ! )... Found the torch!

FFS unbelievable ****ing unbelievable, I gave a little skip of joy!

Took it home, charged it 24 hours...........absolutely ****ing knackered!

Skipped it!

Not every cloud has a silver lining

Had a break in at the quarry workshop and loads of stuff went missing including my beloved Knipex Gland pliers - the black ones with red PVC grips. Boss bought me new ones. A year later I took the lid off some 6x6 steel trunking and there bthey were just sat inside. So the thief must have had a conscience, broke into the switchroom, removed the trunking lid and put them back. See, not all thieves are bad.

 
Went back today to pick my tools up. I had left voltstick, clampmeter, 3 screwdrivers and my knipex long nose pliers so result all sat on a ladder next to meter.

 
I once went to one of those "come and finish off" jobs, where the "previous spark" had "done a runner"

Well there was indeed a previous spark (not the home owner) and I still don't know what went on, but the previous spark had left all his tools behind including his testers.

The home owner said I should take them with me, but I declined, as a) I wouldn't want to nick someone elses tools, and b) I thought it might be some form of trap.

are you sure he wasnt under that freshly disturbed bit of soil outside?

Strange how the mind works , mine only gets into 2nd gear these days .      I scrabbled about in toolbox to find that my long nose pliers were'nt there, had them since an apprentice but just couldn't think where they might be and when did I last use them .

I reckon the sub-conscience works on the problem , couple of days later I'm driving along and I suddenly remember using them at the printers , groping in a live board with them .     Call in there ,  front off dist. bd. and theres the pliers lying in the bottom .

Now if you'd have said it was still shining away I may not have believed it .

 
I left a rechargeable torch under a floor on a job once that probably is dead by now. I think its the things you use every day you miss most when you loose them especially your side cutters.

 
I was working on a coulmn once and dropped my screwdriver from a height of 10 meters had a look around in the verge couldnt find it so drove off to next fault, almost a year later i was back at the same coulmn replacing the ballast in the base and there was my screwdriver i had lost right by the column base !

Ive also had tools walk off and go missing my senior hacksaw, a socket tester and a 9.6v B&D cordless that came back to me though

 
Stanley knives and tape measure's are consumables for me, I lose them regularly. 

Good job I only ever buy them from the pound shop.

I often hide  power tools under the floorboards  on jobs rather than take them all out to the van each night. One job  i didn't need the circular saw for a few days and when i returned they had layed a lovely oak floor on top. That was 10 years ago and i still think fondly of old ripper the saw rusting away in the dark.

didnt you still have some cables to be installed, that would require lifting the floor
