Even if its not clear what sort of sparks cannot test to see where the live is coming from.

It's worrying to think that anybody who cannot see how to connect up a circuit can actually sign for the design of said circuit, test and inspect it and sleep soundly at night

You have to carefully check all Rcbo's now. Its pot luck which way round the L & N terminals are, even on new versions of the same part number of known brands.
was testing a load of new builds a few years back, kept getting cross connected RFs on every 3rd or fourth house,
always the same fault in the same place, and everything was identical, some of the single sockets had the terminals the opposite way round from the others,
the only single socket was on the landing and the guys hadnt been checking, who would?
seemed there was a couple of boxes of sockets that were different connections to the rest,
even the wholesalers had a mixture in their new stock,!

I remember a short while back a certain make of single sockets had a warning sticker on them telling that terminal layout had changed. Can't remember what make though.

Oddly enough I was 2nd fixing some sockets yesterday and the single socket configuration was the reverse of the double sockets, hager sockets, I thought Why?

Contactum switched single sockets have the neutral and live reversed compared to doubles but the unswitched ones are the same way round as the double switched. The secret to getting it right is looking at the markings. Always a good idea to put a socket tester in each socket and not just at the furthest point.

I always do that on a rewire on new build. Doesn't everybody?
That was going to be my next point. When testing Zs your meant to test every socket, fcu etc

I know I am an old fart but that was aimed at the OP if he had looked at the markings the thread probably would not have been started by him although it would have been started by another 5 weeker.No Sh*t Sherlock :worship :Applaud :worship
better than that, depending on the model, some wylex ones have them different ways round,!!!
Yeah, I was going to mention Wylex earlier before we knew it was Crabtree. different aged rcbo's are differing ways round.
