Hi there, I am new to this forum so hope I am posting in the right place. I was hoping for some advice as I will put my hand to most DIY projects but I am no electrician and neither is my husband! I was in the garden using a hair dryer (trying to melt some glue on an old chest of drawers I am upcycling) when the hair dryer just stopped. I thought that maybe it had over heated so left it for a while but couldn't get it to work even after it had cooled. I checked that it worked on a socket inside the house, which it did. I then checked the outside RCD board and noted all switches were 'ON'. On further investigation I can see that my outside freezer and the lights (also connected to this RCD) are not working, yet the RCD says it is all ON. What can I do? Thanks in advance for any replies.

I checked the main board in the house and everything was ON. I also switched off and on the mains switch just to check and the outside one is still not working

Does it definitely come from the house consumer unit it may be spured off a spur in the house and the fuse has gone. Is the consumer unit in the house marked up. One way of testing to see if garage consumer unit is live is push the test button if it doesn't trip you have probably lost power to it. Sorry slips said most of this.

The next thing you must do is obtain (buy or borrow if you don't have one) an extension lead to power the outside freezer from one of the working sockets in the house, before all it's contents defrost.

that gives you more time to sort out the problem, or get an electrician in to sort it out.

All lights etc are off on the RCD which is in the garage. I thought that lead straight back to the main RCD in the house although it is not marked on it. I dont know of any other places that a spur may be to check :S

Haha....already moved most of it to the inside freezer...or bin. It was due a good sort out anyway ;)

Looks like this may be a little bit more complex than I had hoped, so I suppose I had better give a local Electrician a call. Thanks for all your help guys.
