i have been asked to install an ext fan in a clients kitchen, all well and good, but the property is not RCD protected. the dilemia is the fan that is going to be installed is a class two fitting, so a RCD would remain useless.

the power will be taken off the power ring, and a FCU installed to fuse it down

can i still certifi the circuit or not, due to the lack of RCD protection, as bs7671 17th states that all new circuits need to be protected.

Are you adding a new circuit back to the fuse board, or burying cables less than 50mm, or does the manufactures instructions say it should be RCD protected?

Doc H.

the containment will be in surface mounted trunking inside of a cupboard, this is also where the socket where i will be taking the power from.

I dont really want to install the RCD FCU on the inside of the cupboard due to the lack of access due to the fridge placement incase of tripping and resetting, if ity is placed on the outside, it will be mounted on the kitchen wall, and i am already just outside of the 300mm rule away from the sink area.

If its surface fitted cables and manufactures instructions don't say fit an RCD then why do you think you need an RCD?
