Hi all, just wondered if someone could clarify whether it's acceptable to test an RCD at the device itself or if you have to test at the extremity of the circuit. Just wondered due to access restrictions to sockets on site. Thanks.

you should test at the rcd with loads dissconected

Although there are circumstances where you may want to test with things plugged in (usually investigations of apparently inappropriate tripping). This is over and above the standard testing with a EIC.

Thanks for replies guys, i wondered if the circuit Zs would have any influence on trip times and should be taken into account

zs should have little effect. but i have had fan assisted heaters stop the tcd from tripping or slow the result
