I installed such a floodlight when we moved into this house some 8 years ago.  I have had to replace it 4 times - I am now using the 5th one.

The first 4 were from B&Q.

Having lost what little faith I ever had in the products which they sell, I bought the last one, towards the end of September this year,  from Newey & Eyre.

It's made by Timeguard and it, too, has failed - permanently on.

Although Newey & Eyre will replace it, I wonder if anyone can recommend another make?   Something which has a better track record, but without me having to take out a second mortgage in order to buy it.

The Americans put a man on the moon 45 years ago.  Can't we make something as simple as a reliable p.i.r. sensor/switch?

(I have posted this same question on other boards too.)

Yes many apologies to our sponsors, I should have given links to them as I have used their products.

what?

and not be spoon fed?

just I couldnt find anything on their site, thought maybe some body else may have used similar in the past,

previously Ive made some up, but cant be arsed/dont have the inclination for crap like that anymore cos customers almost expect it for free...

I thought LED HUT were still a sponsor, shows how good google analytics or whatever wizardry's behind the adverts in my browser is! Any reason why they don't sponsor TEF anymore?

Back to the OP... as a trade customer I just bought the slim line LED floods from LEDHUT and they're mostly good. The 20W with PIR is lighting up a car park very well and the 10W ones light up many areas very nicely. I got warm white as I wanted them to look a bit more welcoming, and didn't need the few extra lumens that cool white gives. Massive thumbs up for having a metre of decent flex connected, a 5 year warranty and seeming of decent build quality. Thumbs down for no instructions whatsoever.

I will say though that using a standalone PIR with their floods is giving me a headache - i'm about to post on that separately - so stick to the ones with built in PIRs that have been designed for LED!

Also, i'm not entirely convinced by the 'slimline' argument being better. Essentially they've moved the electronics from the back of the light to the underneath of it. So the unit is slimmer, but has a larger face. And that is what you end up looking at in the daylight! I don't know if there's a cooling benefit to that design or not...

Happy illuminating :)

PS sorry to hear you've had problems with Timeguard - I've only used their stuff occasionally but it's always been top notch. Weird huh?

PPS Here's the lights i've just bought.. http://www.ledhut.co.uk/led-flood-security-lights/flood-lights.html
