Hi ppl.

Ive jst finished my am2 today with an argument with the examiner.

Can someone tell me why new and young electricians are being taught a wrong way to wire a ring circuit nd fused spurs. Why would u put a switched spur in the ring if it isnt controlling anything. I wired the 2 sockets on ring and a feed frm one socket to switched spur nd one frm load side to an outside socket... By the book... Why is the am2 asking us to wire somethink that wnt be any use to anything?

Also will they fail me for wiring by the book and its tested out?

I hd trble rdg tht as wll .

Don't understand why you fit a "Switched" spur unit unless they're feeding sockets under kitchen units or something. I've been fitting "Unswitched" for years .

what benefit would a sfcu give you (unless it was DP & you wanted local isolation ).

Me in the real world I'd have just wired as a spur (socket to socket) or even pushed the boat out & made the external socket part of the ring.

But as an AM2 peice of work I'd have done as was asked :C

yes you failed for arguing I was the examiner:slap:slap:slap:slap:slap

JOKING........ I'm sure if your argument was valid that would have been taken into account!

I think the OP said it was to feed an outdoor socket, so that may be why you could want to isolate via a switched FCU rather than unswitched. I personally think it advantageous to be able to easily isolate external wiring.

Forgive my ignorance but what is the question on the am2 asking you to do? Do they give you a specification to follow, and you have not followed the specification? Is it more a question of ability to follow a clients instructions or specifications rather than a question of wrong or right method of wiring. Welcome to the forum. Text speak is not required or of any assistance whilst trying to put over a point on the forum.
