Evening all.
Customer is using a BG weatherproof socket outlet to charge his EV but he has noticed that it has caused burn marks on the socket faceplate.
Would it be possible to cut off the 3 pin plug on the EV lead and replace the socket outlet for a commando type, if so would you recommend 16A or 32A.
The installation for the socket outlet is as follows.
Sub main in the meter box with 10mm tails, 30ma rcd,16A mcb and the socket outlet is supplied with 2.5mm 3 core ho7 flex.
Thank you in advance Nigel.
On a earlier post, I have not yet been called back to the fault with the cooker cable, so no update.

Those types of socket outlets are not suitable for dwellings, they are not shuttered. You can get 13A sockets outlets specifically certified for EV charging.

The whole point of granny chargers is that you can plug them into any 13A socket.

Replace the 13A plug with commando socket and you render it useless else where

and since they come with a 13a plug then they should be able to plug into any 13a socket, not a specialy type of 13a socket that almost no one other than electricians are away of

If you are making provisions for EVSE then you should be aware, have competence and a good understanding of the CoP.
