Hi

We are in the process of selling up and down sizing. We had PV panels fitted three years ago and the new owners of the house don’t want the panels on the house. As a result I have a number of questions which I am hoping that someone on the site could answer for me:-

1)      is there any reason why legal or otherwise why I can not take the panels down

2)      would I be able to refit to the new house.

3)      Would I be able to generate back into the grid if I was able to re-negotiate with one of the companies.

I will have to take the panels down as it is one of the conditions of sale, I have to say they have been a real problem when it has come to the sale of the house, I don’t know if it just a Lincolnshire thing or if it is nationwide problem.

Regards,

Tim

1) no don't forget to terminate your FIT contract when you do.

2) yes

3) Yes but you would not be eligible to claim the feed in tariff. The electricity they generate would offset your usage. Install an immersion heater dump controller to try and use as much generated power as possible and it's still worth it since the panels are effectively "free"

Otherwise sell the panels and the inverter? (I might be interested)

Thanks for this, I will ask the boss if she wants to sell the, the new place already has an Immersion heater and I suppose the other option is to buy storage heaters as well.

Are they your panels,

Or do they belong to one of the rip off rent-a-roof scams?
The panels do belong to us.

Hi I don’t know if it just a Lincolnshire thing or if it is nationwide problem.

From the limited knowledge that I have, I think they are very much a Marmite type of thing...

People either Love them or Hate them!

As Steps says the 'install for free' but 'tie your roof into a 25year rental contract' schemes can cause major headaches if you want to move!

If you have bought them and they are your property..

then the only down side is if you haven't had them generating for long enough to get your money back on your initial outlay..

Which can be a weak link for people who may have to move around every few years due to their employment.

I don't thinks its just Lincolnshire problem.

think I would negotiate selling system with house, if you move the system it will be registered under the lower tariff, so you will have paid a higher price but get lower return. If you installed a new system it will be significanlty cheaper than the one you already have, matching the lower FiT. So I would negoatiate adding value to the house on the basis the higher FiT is worth £20/ 30/ 40K over 25 years. Expect to pay around £6k for the new system.

I've always had the train of thought having PV installed added 5k onto a house price,

Having rent-a-roof installed takes 20k off the value.

On a circa 150-200k house that is.
