Ok guys, have got a new transformer for the light which should hopefully fix things, however just a quick question - can anyone tell me what the purpose of these plastic caps I found on the wires of the old one?

Can't seem to remove the transformer without taking the caps off, so want to know if they're important!

those caps insulate the connections underneath, the whole thing may unscrew off the cables. Or it may be crimped so you may have to cut.

hmm doesn't unscrew and has a crimp in it annoyingly - so reckon I'll need to cut it.

So I guess I'll need to go out and get fresh caps dammit! The other light I was doing just had nice simple wires into the transformer and wires out - none of this nonsense! ]:)

Connector - a device for connecting two or more "wires" by means of insulated screw terminals or Push fit type.

hmm...ok next problem - because I've got 5 or 6 wires needing to connect to one wire (see pic), I'm not sure a connector will work without me creating an elaborate butterfly style connections on the far side - is there another type of connector that lets you connect many to one wire?

(basically it's a pendant-style light with 12 little halogen lights connecting to the transformer...)
