Hi

I am replacing an extractor fan that has been wired to the switch rather than the ceiling rose.

How can I use an extractor fan with a delay timer with the minimum fuss in terms of wiring?

if its been taken from the switch, then there will be same connections as there would be at the light

may need a 3c+e to the switch tho, but if tis easier, you could take it to the light (providing there is a neutral there)

The current fan cannot be switched independently of the light, which is the problem. Is there a way of rectifying this without running a new 3c+e to the switch?

add another switch next to original and use that for the fan. or change to a 2gang if its a normal switch

If you want it to run in timer, you may be able to move the timer to the switch side, failing that, itll need a 3c+e

If your current light is fed from the switch and not the fitting then you will have a live, switched live, neutral and earth at the switch; your fan will be connected to the switched live, neutral & earth. If you move the fan supply from the switched live to the live and swap the fan for a PIR fan then you will have a fan which operates when someone is in the bathroom and switch off when the delay has timed out.. You could also fit a new switch close to the existing one to isolate the fan when you don't want it to work..
