Bought this cooker hood for £20 second hand and the lights have never worked on IT. (Elica cooker hood) There was 4x20w MR11 halogen bulbs on it and a broken transformer for these bulbs which wasn't outputting anything. So we bought leds to replace the halogens. Specs are; MR11 GU4 LED Bulb, Power: 2w, Input Voltage: 10-30V AC/DC.

We replaced the old transformer with an Led driver (0.5-18w, 1.5a, output 12V)

So without the bulbs plugged in we get in of 230v and output of 12v, as soon as you plug a bulb in the voltage drops to 8v and the leds flash on and off constantly.

Can anyone help me out here? Is it the wrong driver for the job? The bulbs are only meant to come on when the light button is pressed but they flash on and off all the time.

Thank you.

Dimmers and LED's are more often than not Satan's playthings...........

Designed to bring misery, disappointment and mayhem........

When all you want is simplicity and functionality....

Just as we used to have with the dimmers of yesteryear.

You will probably need to read in depth the spec of dimmers / drivers / Led's to verify if they are actually compatible with each other..

to often stuff nowadays isn't !!!

Can you not just do away with the dimmer, as binky said unusual on a cooker hood anyway.
So had another look at it. The dimmer is linked to microswitches so when the light button is pressed, part of the hood comes out and activates a switch so the lights turn on. With the dimmer bypassed the leds do now stay on without flashing but they are on constantly. Meant to be getting a comms out of the dimmer of 5-12v for the microswitches but there's nothing so dimmer must be bust!
