I’m having a new kitchen, one (wall drywall stud)has an existing two gang switch controlling two ceiling lights.

The switch is in the way of a large tall boy type cupboard to be fitted to the wall.

There will be 18cm either side approximately between the cupboard and the two door frames either side.

I have seen the slim line 2 gang light switches that look the part, the wiring is long enough to easily relocate the switch and replace with an architrave 2 gang 35mm x 150mm high switch.

I wondered if it’s advisable to fit the metal back box as pictured and I’ve read to screw into some wooden studs that I planned to glue adjacent to it below the plaster or to use a surface mounted pattress box?

I thought the surface mounted box might be more comfortable as it would bring the switch away from the door frame.
