Rewired or Not?

Afternoon all, 

New to the forum .. New House to do up and New Knowledge needed along the way. 

I have recently bought a house which is in need of repair and TLC. The electrics included. 

On looking at the house it has new sockets, old sockets, now(ish) fuse box and an older one.

Im not an electrician by trade but hoping that some may be able to assist here. 

Could someone please  inform me of the attached images which I took of the fuse boxes. I believe the older one is for storage heaters? It leaves me to wonder if the whole house would need a rewire? 

Any advice appreciated.

You cant tell what the house electrics are like from a few pics, but i would guess the age of the MK board with breakers to be the 1981 date on the inspection sticker. The house may  not need rewiring although an update of the consumer unit with Rcd protection may be a good idea. You seem to have many cables into the Main earth terminal but they seem small. Do you have any cables connected near the gas meter pipe or water stop cock 

I also think your correct that the older Wylex board is for storage  heaters. Are they still in use ?

The only way to determine IF a rewire is needed is to have a full 100% EICR - this will cost you between £200 and £300 dependent on where you are in the UK

Get a full electrical inspection carried out then you will know exactly what condition the wiring is in.

Thank you for your response. I'm away from the house at the moment and unable to check RE the Gas Metre / Water Stop Cock - One for me to check when i get back. The storage heaters are still in use - Or at least until we install the Central Heating. I also believe the Electric Shower is to go once the combi boiler is in place - This would prevent the breaker requirement for the shower i believe?

Sadly not.

One of the fuseboards dates back to the 1970's and the other the 1990's - so my guess would be the 1970's

I thought this could be too good to be true. And if it is the 1970’s a rewired would certainly be required? It was my thoughts that the consumer unit wasn’t as old.. hoping that some rework had been done. There has been an extension added in the last 20ish years, potentially why the last inspection was 2001.

It may be fine, it may not? 

We can't tell via the internet.

The only way is to have an inspection  done by a trusted local electrician and as @Murdoch says it should cost around 2-300 which isn't bad considering the peace of mind it will provide.

2001 is 17 years ago and things have moved on a fair bit, It would be prudent to upgrade your system to current standard and not have to worry for another 20 years.

So 2001 probably dates the newer fuseboard.

I would still recommend a full EICR, especially if you plan changes......
