So, got to change an old Crabtree fuseboard and this has the main switch on the LH side. The tails are concealed in a wall so I need either a LH main switch board or could I use a RH board and fit the main switch on the left? RCBOs going in so no issues there

thoughts ?

thanks

Personally I’d make a quick call to mfr tech line and ask for their opinion on their switch, can’t follow mfr instructions if you don’t know what they are!

For clarity this is a Lewden board!

I sent them this:

"Hi
All of your literature for your consumer units show the main switch on the right
Is there any reason it can't be fitted on the left when using RCBO's ?
Thanks"

and within 20 minutes came this reply

Hi,
Thank you for your email - the boards come with a sticker pack that has a spare main switch sticker that you can use on the other side of the board. Please be advised that the neutral lead on some of these boards may not be long enough to facilitate this change so we'd recommended being prepared with some spare so not to stop you carrying out this change.

Also, please be advised that the neutral lead may have to come in on the left hand side of the neutral block instead of the right & that in relation the mains tails coming in on the left hand side, you won't get round knock outs on the top or bottom so you have to use either left or right hand faces.

I hope the above is clear - if you have any further queries please give us a call on 01376336200 and ask to speak with our technical team"

Nice and clear and top customer service from Lewden

From experience most manufacturers are pretty helpful if you email their tech department. A few months ago I emailed Hager regarding some replacement mccbs and after multiple back and forth correspondence the devices in question had no compatible modern replacements.
