Ring main earth open circuit

Please help

Prior to alteration of ring main i carried out end to end test, got 0.43 r1 0.43 rn but open circuit on r2. I then split the ring and carried out continuity of each leg, still left with open circuit on x4 sockets??? i then decided to reconnect the ring & split in a different location, this time I ended up with open circuit on x2 sockets?? but no more joy.

Can any of you experts please let me know if there is a simple solution to locating this fault? spent over 5 hours on this so far

Have you not taken all the sockets and spurs of yet then?

Its called halving.

Disc both legs at board, break ring in middle [Mr barrymore]

Cont test the 2 halves....one good and one bad

Ignore the good and halve the bad.....should give one good and one bad

Reconnect first halved ring to second good leg...now got 3/4 with continuity?

Halve the bad again and repeat until you find the break........................or take off every socket/spur etc and have a shuftie [that way it will prove if it is at an accessory or a fixed cable. Well that's what I would do!!!

Thanks, I will give the halving a go tomorrow as i have checked every connection at sockets & spurs, I have even removed the earth sleeving and untwisted the cpc to make sure that it is not broken anywhere.

I have already thought of JB, but every room is chock a block so dreading the thought of floor boards up, hopefully the halving method will pin point me in a rough area. prob tho is that only 1 ring for 3 bed house so the legs are all ova the place

Did a CU replacement for sister in laws partner the other day. o/c found on L of one of the four rings. 1st floor = twelve sockets

Me under stairs testing - left Megger attached - carried on doing something else - Gave screwdriver to Martin (partner Labouring for the day) - your job mate find skt about halfway and remove faceplate. Minute later - loud 'Ohh' then 'wires hanging out' Lucky bar steward found fault on first socket he actually radomly came across!!!! Megger clicked, rock steady 0.32 (same as Rn) Rest of day went really smoothly
