Dear admin

Is there a separate forum for Scots sparks?

I listened to the 2 hour grilling on the parliamentary hoc committee meeting on Monday and it was largely irrelevant to Scots sparks who work to Building Regulations (Scotland) and Part P is not applicable.

The main points were objections to what is termed "5-day wonder" courses, the need for a single third party inspectorate/organisation/registration body like Gas Safety in our industry.

Thanks - I enjoy this forum.

Les

Some sparks in Scotland use this forum :innocent

I have been banned from saying there is no...............

Lets just say our building regulations are different.  :put the kettle on

So you won't see Scottish interests represented in any Part Pee reforms.

I don't see a plethora of 5WW's up here. Perhaps with no part whatsit, so much less need for scheme membership, there is not the corresponding need for 5 week courses to "get qualified"?

But I DO see plenty of rubbish work.  Today I've been putting right all the snags of a new install done by an NICEIC member. He must somehow have proved his competence to Mr nicey. Just a shame he didn't show a great deal of that competence on the job I've been doing today.

I'm sadly of the opinion you won't put right all the shoddy electricians around unless you do something radical. but I don't see much sign of that.  Faffing about round the edges of some part of the building regulations does not seem to be achieving much, apart from costing decent electricians time and money jumping through all the hoops.

I honestly believe the 5 week courses should be banned. OR at the very minimum a requirement for undertaking a 5 week course should be to show an old out of date qualification. They are after all supposed to be a means for someone who qualified some time ago, to update their qualifications. they were not ever intended as a means for a complete novice to qualify as an electrician. But that's what is happening, and it's the colleges that need to be clamped down on to stop that happening.

Or perhaps the scheme providers enrolling a 5WW should ALSO demand to see his old qualification to ensure he was suitable for a refresher course, and refuse to enrol him as an electrician if he can't prove that.  Oh silly me, that might mean them refusing some money. :C

Make him stop ........make him stop !!

Unwritten rule on here SezLes ,   Scots  are welcome until they mention Part bleeding Pee .  Its like finding a Englishman at a Rangers match.

Reason I ask is because of Building Regs Scotland differences with NO Part P

As far as I am aware the forum is for all makes, shape, size, breed, colour of electrician no matter where they reside or work. It relates to electricians and their work whatever it entails. It is not selective to any areas of work or any regulations that may or may not apply. The committee debate has been discussed on this thread; http://talk.electricianforum.co.uk/topic/25073-a-must-watch-late-monday-6th-in-the-afternoon/

Scottish thread, obvious question - yes or no?

:D

I can see merit in re-building Hadrians wall, but personally I'd like to see us all stick together. Some of King Alex's ideas don't sit very comfortably with me.

So are you in Scotland Mr Les?

Which way will you be voting in September?

Just because we have different building regulations does not stop us making a contribution to the forum.  We work to the same WIRING regulations.
