Yes, I'm in the Glasgow area and live in Erskine.
I really have little idea which way to vote would be "right".
I have friends who don't rate King Alex, but I remain open minded.
My own position within the Industry is briefly as follows:
Recently updated at the age of 66 to 17th Edition and Inspection and Testing.
Have served my apprenticeship in the early 60's.
Worked in Industrial and Commercial Sites.
Been in Design.
Went into teaching in the 70's at the age of 28.
Left teaching for 5 years to serve as Trainer with leading Alarm Company in Glasgow.
Back into teaching till about ten years ago.
Been more active doing electrical correction work to the installation in a church built 20 years ago which was built by congregation with the then Pastor as Clerk of Works.
Electrical Installation is poorly designed and installed.
Original electrician on site was an armature winder.
Major problems such as distribution board at intake position with no sub-distribution board.
No one seems to care as I uncover the design and installation faults.
Been advised to stand back at 68 years of age but I refuse to let the board of management get away with neglect of H&S.
It is keeping me interested in the trade and, hopefully, preventing old age "rot".
I am a qualified IT support engineer.
To give you an example of poor design, additions to the church installation revealed that one lighting final circuit has approx. 40-4 ft. fluorescents!
I have fitted RCBO's to all socket circuits.
Have found and rewired neutral to earth shorts in two ring circuits which have probably existed since new.
Have discovered metallic wall lights with no earth connected.
Have downgraded all type "C" mcb's to type "B".
Lots more but this may give you a good idea of where I am at in my life cycle.
As I ask on here about various issues I have found as a volunteer worker the sparks tell me to leave things to the customer. It's up to them what needs attention via EICR. A local contractor has been involved for over a year and still not completed a clean bill of health due to the time issues vs cost.
I have written several times to the Board of Management and implied whether we as a church deserve to continue as a church when so many H&S issues have been and still are being neglected.
Sorry to be a bore but this is my position and I have NO other electrician in the church membership to back and support me.
I want to see the church "toe the line" with other organisations.
