Yes, I'm in the Glasgow area and live in Erskine.

I really have little idea which way to vote would be "right".

I have friends who don't rate King Alex, but I remain open minded.

My own position within the Industry is briefly as follows:

Recently updated at the age of 66 to 17th Edition and Inspection and Testing.

Have served my apprenticeship in the early 60's.

Worked in Industrial and Commercial Sites.

Been in Design.

Went into teaching in the 70's at the age of 28.

Left teaching for 5 years to serve as Trainer with leading Alarm Company in Glasgow.

Back into teaching till about ten years ago.

Been more active doing electrical correction work to the installation in a church built 20 years ago which was built by congregation with the then Pastor as Clerk of Works.

Electrical Installation is poorly designed and installed.

Original electrician on site was an armature winder.

Major problems such as distribution board at intake position with no sub-distribution board.

No one seems to care as I uncover the design and installation faults.

Been advised to stand back at 68 years of age but I refuse to let the board of management get away with neglect of H&S.

It is keeping me interested in the trade and, hopefully, preventing old age "rot".

I am a qualified IT support engineer.

To give you an example of poor design, additions to the church installation revealed that one lighting final circuit has approx. 40-4 ft. fluorescents!

I have fitted RCBO's to all socket circuits.

Have found and rewired neutral to earth shorts in two ring circuits which have probably existed since new.

Have discovered metallic wall lights with no earth connected.

Have downgraded all type "C" mcb's to type "B".

Lots more but this may give you a good idea of where I am at in my life cycle.

As I ask on here about various issues I have found as a volunteer worker the sparks tell me to leave things to the customer.  It's up to them what needs attention via EICR.  A local contractor has been involved for over a year and still not completed a clean bill of health due to the time issues vs cost.

I have written several times to the Board of Management and implied whether we as a church deserve to continue as a church when so many H&S issues have been and still are being neglected.

Sorry to be a bore but this is my position and I have NO other electrician in the church membership to back and support me.

I want to see the church "toe the line" with other organisations.

well my take on Scottish independence.

King Alex wants independence.

But he wants to keep the British pound

He wants to keep the UK army and navy, but not the nuclear bit

Oh and he wants to keep the NHS

But he wants most of the oil.

but the killer for me, is he wants to remain in the EU, without giving us a chance to vote to say if that's what we want.

If we remain with the UK, then it's looking increasingly likely that the UK may get some form of referendum on Europe.

If we vote for independence, we won't get a say.

So in the absence of a referendum on EU membership being offered, then I have to say No, I don't want independence if it means EU membership with no choice in the matter.

King Alex wants independence.
Here is the best bit;  I have heard a couple of wise-cracking

Scots standup comedians who stated that King Alex could

not give two hoots for Scottish culture.

This is not far away from the antics of a certain Barbara Castle

who, when in Westminster, spouted Socialism.  When she went

"up north" she had absolutely NO TIME for ANY of the people

whose culture and values she so ostentatiously espoused.

There was a running battle in the Girl's Grammar School where

she was educated about whether her name should be expunged

from the Roll of Honour.

Dave - You could be earning in Euros soon :slap Thats far worse than Part P or no Part P  :innocent
Quite, that's my fear.

Scotland get's independence, Tries to carry on with the pound but falls out with Westminster. but because they have managed to stay in the EU they adopt the Euro instead.

Meanwhile the RUK has voted to leave the EU.

That's the scenario I don't want. that's why I will be voting NO.

By the way, I'm up in the Highlands, 20 odd miles north of Inverness.

If it did become independent would it mean my misses would have to move back there.........

and me been English i would have to stay here.

I think the Scots would be wrong in going independant ,  I think King Alex is empire building ,  he'll want his own palace soon.

I think there is nothing to be gained ,  they've bleated on about the oil forever .    Oil is run by international mega companies , US, Norwegian, Shell, BP  just happens to be pumped ashore in Scotland.

What always gets me is this , as with the Irish,  OK  they became a Republic but Oh boy ! did it not suit them for thousands of their citizens to leave and live & work in the hated England ,  The Republic itself cannot sustain it's own population  and I don't think Scotland would want all their ex-pats returning to live and work there TBH  .

We should remain as the  United Kingdom  a seperate Scotland is a mistake that will make millionaires of the chosen few ,strutting round Eurpoe,  the rest of you will remain the same .

On the upside  , England will be rid of all the Scots who at the moment impose their will upon us through parliament ,  the last Scottish Chancellor nearly finished us all off.

the last Scottish Chancellor nearly finished us all off.
The story of the Act of Union is not too far removed from this.

Because of a fiasco in Central America which resembled the South

Sea Bubble a huge percentage of the money in Scotland was tied

up in it.  When it went belly up Scotland was nearly bankrupt.  The

English exchequer had to bail them out and they did, to the last penny.

You only have to read Robbie Burns to see how he, in some of the

finest verse ever committed to paper, understood it.

There is something of poetic justice about the entire, sad and sorry

spectacle.  A Chancellor/Prime Minister from Fife singlehandedly

brings a nation to its knees (apparently) and do not forget, he

broke ALL the rules of the Labour Party constitution when he seized

power after the other one resigned.

Sorry, Pro Dave, I haven't returned to read this thread till now.  Yes in Erskine.  and "no" for the vote.

if Scotland do go independent will you have to do another exam?

I mean, it wouldnt be right to work to a British Standard , would it?

will you then be working to the SS  ?

I'll add that to the 101 other reasons to vote no.

We won't even be able to continue using .co.uk domain names.

Good one!

and think of all those on line forms where you're asked for Country.  There's no Scotland,

only UK

Im not totally clued up on this TBH,

BUT,

I get the feeling it has been massively over simplified and the average Joe has NO idea of the actual implications of going independent,

it is NOT the same as having your own parliment,

I really dont think Scotland is self sustaining, in the same way I dont think any one part of the UK is self sustaining on its own.

not merely the .co.uk stuff, think about the issues with telephones, cellphones, postal services etc etc etc

Yes indeed.

Alex Salmond is trying to sell the romantic notion of being in charge of our own destiny and making Scotland Better. But without spelling out the details.

I'll start by saying Scotland is a pretty good place to live and work already. Does it really need to be any "better"?

So Alex (Wee Eck as some call him round these parts) says we will continue to use the GB£ UK government says no.  It really is like a pantomime.  "oh yes we can"  "Oh no you can't" etc

And that's how it is for a lot of things.  He's trying to sell a dream, without the details agreed.

He wants to keep the UK army and navy, but not the nuclear bits.

Oh and we won't be able to watch the BBC, we will have a Scottish version instead (thank god for freesat if that hair brained idea ever does get implemented)

It's looking like the no vote will win (a victory for common sense) in which case the UK parties are starting to trip over each other in who will devolve most extra power to the Scottish Government in the event of a no vote. the so called "Devo max"

Do they actually HAVE electricity in scotland?? If they do, they must have very big wires to get it all the way there. Besides, how do they maintain the network?? We have terrible trouble here with pikeys stealing the cable, well, it is MUCH worse there. I saw on television they had caught some stout looking natives carrying the wooden poles the DNO use to put the wires are on, they toss the poles up in the air too, no shame at all!! From what i understand, it is officially recognised as a "sport" can you believe that. Quite brazen they are; I saw the chap on television being questioned and he claimed the pole he had with him was called a "caber" Now come on... He can call it what he likes, but any fool could see it was a DNO pole!!! Obviously stolen, i mean, have YOU ever seen these things on sale?? of course not...

Why on earth would anyone want one of these things anyway??

john...
