Hi,

Im looking for an SDS drill to use for chasing and holes through brick etc and wondered if anyone had any recommendations. Obviously cant afford Hilti or the like but wanted a half decent bosch or makita.

Would you go for 240, 110 or battery. Cant really afford

What sort of work do you do? 240V more simple in domestics, but you're likely to need 110V if you are doing any site work. The 110V transformers are awkward and heavy.

What's the budget?

Mostly be doing domestics but wouldnt mind getting 110 incase site work comes along. Thought you could use 240 on site now with RCD?

Budget

some sites still wont let you use 230v. i have a 230v dewalt for most things, and a 110v makita. never had a problem with 230v, and the 110v only gets used when i need a second drill

iirc, the dewalt was

I've got one of these, perfect for light chiselling. i wouldn't recommend a battery drill for tracking - don't think it would last.

I also have one of these

It's only got 1.3ah lith battery but it does come with 3 of them. Great for drilling big holes through walls and drilling 14mm holes for anchors etc.

With this sort of kit, I have found that you really do get what you pay for.

Thanks for all the replies.

Does anyone use a chaser for chasing walls (the ones with 2 grinding discs)

or are they too messy.

Thanks

Hi Matty,

I have a Wickes drill for 18 years, abused and ******** sideways but still goes, also have a Dewalt DW566GB, has also been a good drill, laods of abuse still going strong, then I have the big Kango for serious breaking of concrete, only comes out rarely.

Only like Makita drills for screwing, I f you need a cheap drill for screwing Screwfix have a small drill made by Makita called a Sprite with 3 batteries for

Personally, just use a normal grinder, cut two lines, then either chop out with hammer and chisel or with the SDS (chisel)

But you're talking domestic aren't you? Sorry, forgot! No domestic experience:coat

I used one of those once it nearly killed me the weight of the thing. I have a makita five inch chase cutter and a new metabo 5 inch chase cutter. These can cope with most domestic stuff and my Henry vacuum also copes as long as you change the bag regularly its amazing the dust that comes out when you do a chase. Any one that says use a grinder on domestic wants there head testing you won't get paid if you do that. A chase cutter is a neccessity on rewires on domestic if house is occupied and even if not saves a lot of clearing up.

For domestic I take a labourer with me and give him a hammer and chisel.

Costs a bit more but saves me the effort

:D
