Self Billing Invoices?

Have any of you lads got any experience of self billing invoices? I have taken on a contract with a builder which should see me through feb and march with a couple of guys i am bringing in. Its all council work though and as I am responsible for the two lads I will have working with me the builder wants self billing invoices?

Anyone know what the sitation is with them? Obviously I want to keep the tax low if possible

Hi Sparkyboy, I've never heard of a self billing invoice. If you are working to the CIS tax scheme , which I suppose you must be, perhaps he means submitt an invoice with all the working out done . Its the way you want to do it anyway.

And don't forget , he stops tax from your earnings only. !!! Not the two lads. Then you stop the tax from the two lads who are helping you.

if your going down the cis route approach the inland revenue for a contractors pack.. very easy .

Would have a word with your accountant and see if they will do your paperwork at reasonable price. Wage slip for my apprentice worked out at

Do you mean working as self employed and invocing the council for your work?

Cheers for the advice lads...I think I will give the accountant a call if it is going to be that cheap then...she can sort it out and i can set off down the pub.

In response to the council paying slow...i have arranged for weekly payments from the main contractor so if he doesnt for the first week I dont turn up the second...been stung like that before!

never heard of a self billing invoice. i normally give invoice on completion of job/payment or for some customers it gets posted a few days after completion
