Hi all

An old lady I know is having her kitchen re vamped and is having a new cooker & hob, so I went along to check if there is any electrical work to be done. Unfortunatley while I was there she got a call about her sister being rushed into hospital so that cut short my visit. But while I was there I found that the tails from her meter went directly through the wall into a main switch, but her fuse board is situated about 10mts away at the other side of the house. Has anyone come across this sort of thing before? She did say that she had a problem with her cooker & hob, in that they stopped working about a week ago, then all of a sudden came back on, so I'm assuming that there might be a loose connection in the back of the box?

I have worked out that the new cooker & hob should be fine on a 6mm cable so I am hoping that the cable installed is 6mm, because if it means a change of cable, it will open a can of very expensive worms?

I have advised her that her earthing & bonding is not up to scratch.

The 10m run, what is that cable? It is concealed in a wall? Is the main switch on the other side of the wall to the meters also providing overcurrent protection?

It was that I was attempting to look at when she got the call about her sister. I think, but not sure, it was t&e if it was, I don't know what size. There was no over current protection, just a switch.
