been working at a house and they ask me if i could remove mains wired smoke, i said you might be pushed to get some one to remove a smoke alarm. been back again and they have asked me again, because they have a open fire place and it setts it off when the put it out. i said i would move it but they want it gone, they have brought i battery one to put up.

my take is they can do what they want if they do it them selves, what do you guys think?

Replace it with a heat detector .

Imagine how you would feel if there was a fire there after you had removed them, you are right to think twice. And they are stupid to ask you .

Just remember that once you start interfering with it, you'll have to issue a smoke alarm cert. Once you do that, you'll have to make sure the design is correct.
