I live in a town house with 3 mains supplied smoke alarms. They have started beeping once intermittently. If I press the 'test' button, they beep for a few seconds (presumably telling me they are working). The green light is on.

Anyone out there tell me what I can do to stop this beeping? (I have looked at the fuse in the mains fuse box, it is all hunky dory)

Hello Poppet welcome to the forum. It may be an internal backup battery that is low and needs changing. Some have standard 9v battery fitted as well as the mains supply.

No idea what make - just looked but I would need to look in daylight and standing on a stool (ouch, me neck!)

Same age as the house, 12 years. We have had the house (and the alarms) since new

It is recommended to replace them after 10 years

If they have sealed battery type then you have no option

Ours behave like that, a peep every now and then to tell you the backup battery needs replacing. Some are just a standard 9V pp3 alcaline battery others are something more special. Get up on the steps and have a look.
