Wasn't sure whether to put this in the Vet section!

Talking to a pest control guy today about rodent damage to cables etc. Another lad joked about getting a cat and the rat man said that a Jack Russell would be better as domestic (as opposed to feral) cats prefer smaller prey. TBH we've only had one cat that was a good ratter, the current one used to bring small stuff in all day long but anything bigger and the cat was like "Look a rat, best you get a cat!".

My mate, continuing the joke said "How about a snake?" and the bloke said "Yep, that would certainly frighten them off!". But his top tip was rather than the whole snake per se, JUST THE SKIN apparently acts as a deterrent. So if you have a rat/mouse problem give it a go.

We got to thinking about this....................imagine if you're the next sparks working down there and you don't know it's just the skin! You'd be wondering where the owner was!

Well i would be STRAIGHT back home!!! Spiders are bad enough, but snakes, OMG!!!

I used to work on a farm once. I went in a shed and there was this great big rat. Anyway, i thought i would chase the thing into a corner for a laugh. BIG MISTAKE!!!! Now, normally, the thing will just run off. It just wants a quiet life, same as us, but take it from me, if you corner the things, they go potty!!! This thing ran about six feet up a blockwork wall, and then launched itself out at me!!!! OMG!!! Will not be doing that again!!! I would hate to meet one in a confined space under floor boards or in a factory somewhere!!

john....

yep, I grew up in the sticks and played round farmyards etc, it was always drove into us that if you see a rat never to corner it or block its escape,

as for the snake skin!

Id be at end of the street before the door had closed behind me!

Hahaha, now then

I live with my girlfriend and her family, her brother lost his snake 3 months ago, only a small one, but still a snake! It got out of its tank lid and scarpered.

After a week of no sleep I pressumed it would have died due to the lack of heat. Then 2 months on it turns up in the airing cupboard! Must have been keeping warm in there, not sure what it had been eating. I just hope it didn't slither over me one night.

F**k that! I would have moved out until the snake was found, dead or alive! :)

When I was about 14 I went to visit my Nan, and my cousins live next door. My youngest cousin was only 4 at the time and had a habit of leaving his toys around everywhere. So when I saw one of his toy rubber snakes on the floor I went to pick it up, and my hand was only a few inches away when it moved! It was a real snake! To say I screamed the house down is an understatement :) Turn out it was only a baby adder that has managed to get in through gap between the floor and the wall (the house is really old).

But that incident didn't really do my snake fobia any favours at all. Nowadays I can hardly watch them on telly, and if I do I can't have my feet on the floor :)

We have adders, grass snakes and slow worms in the garden and surrounding fields where I live. We simply tell the kids if they see any of them to come and tell us. I've lived there 20 years and we have a big compost heap made from corrugated iron sides with an old dark green tarp over the top. I STILL get the occasional fright when I pull back the cover and see one!

My mate lost his pet corn snake a while back. Was quite upset. Then had the neighbour banging on the door screaming she had a snake in the house. She'd thought "Dave has a snake, he'll know what to do!". It turn's out that Dave's missus had lent the neighbour her hoover and they reckon thing had hitched a ride next door on / in it! Dave though is odd he makes a maze out of old video tapes stacked up, chucks a few grubs in and lets his (leopard?) gecko run round in it! IMO, all these things............best on a plate!
