I don't have kids but me thinks a swift hand to the seat of ignorance may work:p

I agree.. Why cover something up that has built in safety shutters. If I see any in a house I'm working on I show the people how they could be used to bypass the shutters.
same here. they usually remove them straight away.

I do hear that Ofsted insist on them being fitted? should I be making my concerns known?

never seen the point in these at all, then again some people are completely paranoid. swmbo's neice has to turn off sockets that have no plugs in them as it freaks her out and thinks its dangerous, now i turn them off but only as i think it look neater(i do the same whenever i install a socket for some reason).

Hi, I am one of the founders of FatallyFlawed.

We approached Ofsted about this issue, and as a result they changed their policy in December 2008 and no longer require the use of socket covers (although they have declined to warn against them).

You might think that RoSPA would be interested, but they require us to demonstrate that socket covers "seriously harm hundreds of children every year" before taking any action.

Apart from the obvious danger of covers being the best way to defeat a socket's shutters, did you note the other dangers we show in our socket cover reviews?

MK (Honeywell) have advised us that "a socket cover must also conform to the dimensions stated in the relevant British Standard" however our tests have shown that there is not a single cover on the market which is actually made to the correct size of a BS 1363 plug! (see our Fact Sheets) There is no regultion of socket covers in the UK, except to ensure that they will not poison a child when they chew on them!

If you agree with us please consider writing to your MP about this, it is only by government regulation that this threat can be removed.

Hello Socketman,

Welcome to the forum.

I have been looking on your website and it makes for some very intersting reading! And watching! I have just viewed your first two videos, and I will post them on here:

<EMBED src=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d-WhFgaqCX0&feature=player_embedded&hl=en&fs=1& width=425 height=344 type=application/x-shockwave-flash allowscriptaccess="always"></EMBED>

The following, I hope, Will be seen by Registered Childcare Providers, who will then, I hope, see the link, Below - to your Website. (As well as view the videos).

Ofsted:

"Registered childcare providers must ensure their premises are as safe as possible for children. It is for the provider to decide as part of the risk assessment they carry out at their premises how best to protect children from dangers associated with electric sockets and appliances".

A total of three videos, to date, can be viewed at Socketmen's website Here:

Best Regards,

Admin.

Bengie , you and Admin are becoming paranoid ;) I had a customer once who couldn't cope with one of their 2way switches being upside down :( Kept asking me to to put it right.

Also had a sparks helping us on a small industrial unit, tubing with black enamel steel conduit. When I popped in they were stuck for a tee box ,found him a galvo one in the van, he couldn't cope with it being different, even though the painters were already there ,setting up to spray the walls and everthing on them ,magnolia.

He went out and bought a small tin of black paint for the box, now that IS paranoia !!!

I have black enamel Paint and Black enamel in Spray form, in stock. ;)

This is going "Off Topic" Just to drag it back, I always disliked those so called safety covers too , seeing as they open the shutters . Never thought of them going in upside down and exposing them totally.

Should be banned.

always hated these things and actually had a row at my young lads nursery about these one day.

now I have firm evidence Im going back to have it out with them again.
